MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH
Pastor Gene Worley and his wife Glenda are our missionaries of the month for February and have been affiliated with Baptist Bible Fellowship since 1967. During that time they have been missionaries to England and Norway. Since 1999, Gene has served as county director to Ethiopia.

EITHOPEAN AIRLINES (ET) 2 for 1 OFFER

  • Good to all ET destinations.

  • Domestic “add on” fares with Continental, Delta, Northwest, USAir, and Northwest.

  • Must be booked in limited booking class of service.

  • Must be ticketed within 72 hours.

  • Valid for travel thru March 19, 2008.

  • Second passenger must pay all applicable taxes.

NEW AIRLINE PARTNER
We are now able to offer unpublished missionary fares with Qantas Airlines TO the USA and FROM the USA on their entire international network. Their domestic partner in the USA is American Airlines.

NAME CHANGE
Effective March 15, 2008, Cherokee Travel will change its business name to VININGS TRAVEL in that we no longer have offices in Cherokee County or will offer vacation planning services. The name Cherokee Travel will be retired for a length of time but will be used again by another company. All changes will be reflected on our web site and future communications after March 1, 2008. Ownership remains the same.

TRAVEL TIPS
Taxes and fuel surcharges are never guaranteed until purchase. Also, obtaining your seat selection is not available to you until the tickets are issued.

Confirming your return flights is always your responsibility. The date of your return flights may be cancelled by the airlines or the time of departure may have changed. By not confirming, you will not know and the airline accepts no responsibility for your having missed your flight. Further, without confirming your flight, the airline takes the position that you might have elected to change your return and will give your seats away as departure time draws nearer for the benefit of standbys.

MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH Judy Weekes is our missionary of the month for January 2008. Please share your story with us, too. Judy’s testimony is also featured on our web site.

Travelers to South Africa

All Non-South African passport holders are required to have at least one, entirely blank (unstamped) visa page (i.e. one side of such a page not front and back thereof) in their passport, each time entry is sought into South Africa. These pages are in addition to the endorsement/amendment pages at the back of the passport. South African government regulations prohibit airlines from boarding passengers without the required blank visa page.

Please note that depending upon country of citizenship, other requirements may also apply. It is the responsibility of the traveler to ensure that they have the correct travel documents. If you have any questions on the required documentation, please inquiry with the Consulate or Embassy of all countries that are included on the itinerary to ensure compliance.

SOUTH AFRICAN 2 for 1 SALE CONTINUES

Just remember, that while the second ticket is free, you still must pay the taxes on that ticket. It’s a wonderful bargain – and they don’t happen often.

TRAVEL TIP: This monthly segment is one that everyone seems to especially like. We welcome your travel tips that you feel would be interesting to share. One of our travelers was recently told by a gate agent that when an international flight is oversold and there are no volunteers to give up their seats – those passengers without a seat assignment are the first to be denied boarding. She was urged to always check in online and to print out boarding passes up to 24 hours before her departure.

Effective January 1, 2008, the following rules apply to the spare lithium batteries you carry with you in case the battery in a device runs low.

May God Always Be Praised By Our Speech And Actions
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The Nativity has been painted by countless artists and live nativity scenes are displayed on the lawns of churches throughout the world. We can only imagine the reaction of the angel, seeing the Lord of the entire universe suddenly reduced to a human infant. Nearly everyone loves the Christmas story about the baby, but few are willing to face the man on the cross. Christ was not born for Christmas – He was born for Easter. “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and protector of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews 12:2

On behalf of our entire staff, have a blessed Christmas. Christ, most assuredly, is the reason for the season!

BREAKING NEWS

Newspaper Headline – December 4, “Airlines cut back on Capacity”. In part, the article relates: “Responding largely to high fuel costs six big network airlines continue to trim their schedules despite strong travel demand.” “To trim capacity, airlines can eliminate routes, fly them less frequently and/or switch to smaller planes.” "Whatever the course, travelers face reduced options and fuller flights.”

TRAVEL TIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL - 2008

Plan ahead!

Unpublished missionary prices are not “instant purchase” fares like the consolidator and wholesale fares featured on www.MissionaryAirfareSearch.com. We are contractually allowed to place your unpublished missionary fared seats on a courtesy hold. It secures your seat in today’s low booking class. If you wait, today’s booking class will no longer be available. Return flights have become a problem. Because of the exchange rate, many Europeans are coming to the United States to shop in the same way American’s vacationed in Europe and enjoyed sale prices prior to the Euro.

Send in your request to:reservations@cherokeetravel.net. Be sure and include all the names of those going and dates of travel. We will check around the dates you provide to suggest a lower priced travel date should one exist.

You are allowed a date change on the return without the normal airline penalty of $150-250 per ticket for any alteration to an international itinerary.

Please Also Note:

The unpublished missionary fares we represent are good either TO the US or FROM the US. The lowest fares from the US to Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean are found on www.MissionaryAirfareSearch.com.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

We are thankful for your obedience to the Lord in sharing the saving Gospel of Christ to all the nations of the world. May God continue to bless you, your family, and the ministry you represent richly and without limit. For the past 25 years we have been blessed by missionaries allowing us to partner with them in their coordination of travel. Please accept our pledge to always work as unto the Lord to remain worthy of your confidence and trust.

FUEL INCREASE – SEAT DECREASE

As this message is written, crude prices are almost $95.00 a barrel. United Airlines has informed the public that they may have to cut seat/space capacity in 2008 to “offset the pressures on profits from raising oil prices”. Other airlines are expected to follow suit. On November 14th there was another fuel surcharge. 2008 fares will be more expensive because of oil prices and fewer seats to sell. Planes will fill quicker – and prices will climb. To be a good steward of the Lord’s funds you must place your seats on a courtesy hold to obtain the best fares. However, if you wait into 2008 you will pay substantially more! Remember, you are able to lock in the fare without any financial obligation. We will work closely with you on this. Please be pro-active by emailing: reservations@cherokeetravel.net.

TRAVEL TIPS

www.flightaware.com is the most sophisticated, useful, and fun aviation site on the Internet. It tracks in “real time” every airplane on an instrument flight plan over all of North America and much of the Atlantic and Pacific. Simply key in the airline name and flight number. A map will show
you exactly where the flight is enroute to its destination. With another click you receive all the relevant information for the arrival airport such as wind and weather, ceiling and visibility. It’s a wonderful site for use of family members to track a loved-one’s journey.

NEW PROCEEDURES AT JAPANESE AIRPORTS

Foreign nationals are required to undergo additional screening by scanning their index fingers and also having immigration agents taking a facial photograph. Travelers are advised to allow extra time for this new immigration procedure. For more information: Japanese Airport Video

MISSIONARY MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT

Beginning in 2008, each month we will attempt to honor God by spotlighting one of you and the ministry you have been called to. Please submit your short personal information, ministry narrative, and praise report. If you have pictures we will use them, as well.

NEW TRAVEL TIPS FROM OUR MISSIONARIES

Always carry an extra pair of passport size photographs along with a copy of your passport. This will greatly expedite your consulate’s issuance of replacement documentation.

Always reconfirm your flights. If you are unaware the departure time has changed you may miss your flight altogether. You will be considered a “no show” and loose the value of your ticket. The responsibility is totally yours.

Know who you are purchasing your international tickets from. We hear horror stories of purchased internet tickets that ended up being highly restrictive - completely nonrefundable and unchangeable. Also, many of these tickets are not accepted by another carrier in the event of flight cancellations or an extended delay. Check to be sure they earn frequent flyer miles.

EUROPE AND AFRICA 2008 TRAVEL RELEASE

You can make your reservations NOW and place your Lufthansa and United seats on a courtesy hold until 45 days prior to departure WITHOUT DEPOSIT. Be a good steward of the Lord’s funds and don’t pay higher fares later on because you failed to plan ahead. As planes fill up the prices go higher. Don’t be fooled by today’s internet “instant purchase” fares. When you are ready to actually purchase in 2008 the fares will be much higher! We need the names of each of your travelers to accomplish this.

WI-FI AIRPORT TRAVELING RETRACTION

In our most recent communiqué we passed on a tip from one of our missionaries about Wi-Fi use in an airport.

We shared it with all of you assuming that it was very much like the Wi-Fi connections offered at the Atlanta Bread Company Restaurant here in Atlanta – and not dependent on any purchase.

Many of you have written to share it not only falls short of God’s best from an ethical perspective but is, very likely, illegal. We have often received compliments over the travel tips we pass on from our missionary clients – and will continue our practice to do so. However, we hasten to communicate with you again to withdraw this suggestion. As members of the Body of Christ, our reputations are valued more highly than silver or gold. Not being an attorney, I am unable to speak to its legality. However, as Scripture clearly points out,
many things are legal but not all are profitable. This, apparently, is one of them.

For those of you that took the time to faithfully write as a living testimony to Matthew 18, thank you! We are better for it. For those I have offended, I ask your forgiveness. It, truly, was an honest mistake.

Cordially in Christ,

MISSIONARY TRAVEL TIPS:

Selections have been made from our missionary traveler's experiences.

Please contact us with any “travel tip” you have found worthwhile and would bless others.

Seat Selection

Before calling the airline to make your seat selection, check www.seatguru.com and look up the aircraft you are flying. It will tell you which seats offer extra leg or elbow room and which to avoid – such as those that don’t recline, have immovable armrests, or have an obstructed view of the movie screen.

Dodge paying for Wi-Fi at the airport

Sit right outside an airport club lounge: Wi-Fi signals often glide through the walls.

Carbonated drinks on long distance flights?

As statement of fact, carbon dioxide at 33,000 feet can make you sick for days! Consider water.

Window shades down, please

Attention Parents; during daylight hours flying above the earth’s atmosphere means that nothing is filtering out the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Excess baggage fees

Many airlines have reduced the limits to two bags that weigh no more than 50 pounds each. However, policies differ among carriers and countries. Not knowing the requirements of each of the carriers that make up your itinerary can mean steep excess-baggage charges. Check the airline web-sites before starting to pack. For example: Ryanair, starts calculating excess baggage fees when the total exceeds 33 pounds.

Why take one Aspirin? (CONSULT YOUR PHYSICAN!)

(1) Thins blood to prevent blood clots from lack of movement
(2) Wards off germs from recycled air
(3) Helps overcome time zones.

PASSPORT REALITY CHECK

Demand for passports has skyrocketed. It now takes as long as 2 ½ months for routine passport processing, while expedited processing for an extra fee will take up to four weeks.

We suggest using a private visa and passport service that can walk the visa or passport through in 3-5 days. The fee charged is higher than that of the State Department’s, but you can be assured of receiving your documents in a timely fashion. There are several companies we regularly recommend: Washington Visa and Passport 800-282-7776 www.wpvs.org and Visas International 800-638-1517 www.visasintl.com.

All Non-South African passport holders departing from the US are required to have at least one, entirely blank (unstamped) visa page in their passport each time entry is sought into South Africa; these pages are in addition to the endorsement / amendment pages at the back of the passport.

INTERNATIONAL FARES SEEM HIGH?

Fewer planes to any destination, along with flying smaller aircraft, have caused more of a demand for seats than there is a supply of seats. However, British Airways and Korean Air have pleaded guilty to price fixing and each must pay a $300 million fine. So far, none of the cases are known to involve US carriers.

COURTESY HOLD DEPARTMENT

For groups of 9 or less, many international unpublished missionary fares allow us to reserve your seats now and to place them on a courtesy hold for up to 30 days prior to departure. This is intended to be a blessing but it takes your participation!

Partnering With Missionaries For Over 25 Years!
In most instances, the international unpublished missionary fares we represent will be lower than you will find, elsewhere. Simply contact us by phone or email to research your quote. However, check out our prices at www.MissionaryAirfareSearch.com because sometimes the airlines will offer an international special fare that is even less expensive. This is especially true during “low season travel” months of December, January and part of February. Check this site for information ranging from: International Cell Phones, Insurance, Airports, CDC updates ….to…packing lists.

It’s bullet fast and fares displayed include all taxes and gas surcharges.

Please keep in mind that these are instant purchase fares. Unlike our international unpublished missionary fares, we are unable to place them on
a courtesy hold and they do not offer one free date change on the return without the airline penalty for any change to an international ticket.

Either way, you are backed by a 25 years old full service travel agency where you are able to form a personal relationship. We do not out-source
our service department off-shore to places like Delhi or the Philippines.

Blessings,

FALL IS GOING TO BE VERY BUSY – PLEASE PLAN AHEAD

  • In March 2007 the U.S State Department notified international travelers that their normal passport processing time would take 10-12 weeks rather than the normal 4 weeks. Even that figure was greatly understated and they still have a backlog of 500,000 passport applications. For this reason, many international trips that were delayed during the Spring and Summer now will take place in the Fall.

  • Planning ahead is easy! Unpublished missionary fares allow us to work with you to secure space and price so that the fares will not continue to go up as the planes become filled. We are able to place your seats on a courtesy hold for payment later.

If you are not totally sure about the return date, don’t overly concern yourself with that. Your fare allows one free date change on the return without the airline imposing their normal penalty of $150-250 per ticket for any change to an international itinerary.

Please remember that we need the passenger’s names as they appear on their passports to establish the courtesy hold. Please include them with your fare quote request. If you find you don’t need the space we will release it to the airline’s inventory of seats for sale.

2008 Olympic Beijing Games Are Sprinting Towards Us!
Since 1984 we have specialized in sending individuals and groups around the world to international conferences, outreaches, and the Olympics. Kindly consider allowing us to assist you.

Especially during this time, do not purchase your individual or group tickets from someone on the internet whose reputation is not well known. The internet is a fertile place for fraud, especially, during an Olympic year when prices will be higher and “waiting-lists” not uncommon. If you see a price advertised that is too good to be true – it probably is too good to be true. If an internet site claims they are able to confirm seating when firms such as ours are not - Watch Out! – Always check with us!

As a missionary sending travel organization, we understand your faith walk and the time needed for God to raise the funds through the faithful. Missionary Airfare Search understands because we have all been on the mission field and short-term mission trips. To that end, we will place your reservations on a courtesy hold and freeze the price so it won’t continue to escalate as the flights fill. Also, we’ll provide one free date change on the return without the airlines imposing a $150-250 penalty for any change to an international itinerary. The date change would have to be in the same category of booking class, though, so the new fare could be the same, higher, or lower.

May the Lord Jesus Christ be glorified in all our endeavors. For God is good and loves mankind.

Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

The most powerful and splendid moment in the life of the early church came in the midst of a darkened church when the priest intoned: “Come receive light from the un-waning light and glorify Christ who has risen from the dead.” Suddenly the entire church was ablaze with lights and soon after with the triumphant sounds of: “Christ is Risen!” It is as if the whole world had acquired a single voice, which proclaimed the greatest message that man has ever heard. “Christ is Risen!”

Christ is Risen from the dead, by death trampling upon death and for the first time bestowing life upon those who died before Him as well as those who will die after Him. This paean of Christianity resounds throughout the World reminding us of the salvation which has come to the whole World. It speaks in the present tense, “Christ is Risen!”, for Christ is present among us in power - His Resurrection Power. We are not called to commemorate His Resurrection, but to participate in this event and be, ourselves, transformed by it.

CHRIST IS RISEN brothers and sisters! Glory to His Holy Name! May our lives glorify Him!

From all of us at www.MissionaryAirfareSearch.com, please know that assisting you in the spread of the Gospel with unpublished missionary fares is an honor and blessing in that you proclaim the Good News that: “Christ is Risen!”

May God continue to bless you and your ministry, richly.
